The
Perfect Fake Tan |
|
|
| |
|
White
and light-coloured wedding dresses can drain your complexion
and so brides often want a little extra colour to create a healthy,
tanned glow for their photographs.
There are many self-tanning products on the
market that will give a variety of results without making you
appear like you have just stepped off the set of Baywatch. The
beauty of a fake tan is that it is available all year round
and has no danger of skin cancer. So what's on offer?
|
This
is a powder product, similar to a blusher, which is applied
directly to the skin with a brush. The most effective products
are small balls of varying colours, ranging from dark brown
to a healthy pink. This means that the overall effect is a natural
glow rather than a heavy brown-coloured area. While being useful
for facial tanning, bronzers are easily rubbed off, and do not
offer long-term tanning.
To achieve a healthy look from a bronzer, apply make-up as usual
and then brush a light dusting of the product over your cheeks
and forehead. Make sure that your skin is not damp or oily as
the fine powder will stick to these areas and blend in some
colour onto your neck to avoid a mask-like look.
If you are honeymooning in a warm climate and want to enhance
your skin-kissed look then bronzer is a 'must-have' product
for you. If you would like a bronzer that will be of use for
your wedding make-up and to take on honeymoon find a product
that has three or four colours in a pot. Once your skin has
developed a tan you can vary the depth of colour by mixing and
matching the shades to suit you.
This product is tan-coloured when it comes
out of the bottle and is applied directly to your skin, where
the colour sits until it is washed off. This is an easy product
to control as you can see exactly where the cream is going,
but is not as natural-looking as some of the developing tanners.
Buy a light-coloured product and build up layers on your skin
for a more natural effect.
Self-tanning
products are available in a variety of colours and it will be
necessary to try a few applications to see how each product
reacts with your individual skin tone. Applying a second layer
a few hours after the first will build up colour and give you
a longer-lasting tan. This cream, lotion or body spray will
develop into a tan over a few hours and will stay on your skin
until you shed your skin-cells (between three and seven days
later). Because of the product's invisible nature, be careful
when applying and wash your hands thoroughly or you will end
up with unnaturally brown palms.
Leave as long as possible between applying self-tanner and dressing
as clothes can rub the cream off before it has the chance to
sink into the skin. Try not to become overheated or come into
contact with water for a few hours after application, as this
too will affect the development of the colour.
If you are nervous about applying self-tan then opt for a professional
salon tanning treatment. This way you can be sure that the product
is evenly distributed over your body and you don't have to worry
about those hard-to-reach areas like the backs of your arms.
As well as being a way of achieving a natural looking tan, this
is also a wonderful way to feel pampered before your big day.

Prepare
the skin before applying any type of tanning product. |
 |
Exfoliate
well with a flannel or body scrub and dry the skin. |
 |
Apply
a good layer of moisturiser or body lotion before moving
on to the tanning product. |
 |
Massage
a small amount of the product to a small area. This will
mean that control is kept over the amount of tanning that
is achieved. |
 |
Be
careful not to apply too much product on elbows, knees
and other dry areas as it is likely that more tanner will
be absorbed by these areas and you don't want a patchy
effect. |
 |
If
you are using a bronzer or wash-off tanner it is important
to remove it properly with a good quality cleanser as
these products may clog the pores. |
